  • 11.00 AM - 12.30 PM

Neurodegenerative disorders are one of the major public health problems and leads to psychological as well as economic burden on the caregivers and nation. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 15 percent of the world's population are mentally disabled with dementia, memory loss, anxiety, and stress related disorders. Dementia is one of the leading contributors of disability in the elderly among all the neuropsychiatric conditions.

Alzheimer disease, the most common cause of dementia among older adults, is a brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills and eventually, the ability to carry out the simplest tasks. Dementia is the loss of cognitive functioning and behavioral abilities, and it adversely impacts person's daily life and activities. Dementia ranges from the mild to the most severe stage. The causes and stages of dementia (Alzheimer's disease) varies from person to person. Beyond genetics, there are numerous other factors involving health, environment, and lifestyle diseases

India is currently undergoing through demographic transition phase wherein the aged population is rapidly growing. Mental health conditions of elderly play a significant role in their morbidity and premature mortality. In India, 5 out of every 100 elderly people have dementia and many more are at high risk. The nutritious diet, physical activities, social engagements, and mentally stimulating pursuits have all been associated with helping people to stay healthy as they are ageing and it might also help reduce the risk of cognitive decline.

With the objectives to cascade and raise awareness about Alzheimer and other forms of dementia and related mental disorders and to disseminate knowledge and wisdom to promote healthy living with focus on prevention and wellness of such diseases, ASSOCHAM, under ILLNESS TO WELLNESS campaign, is organizing a Webinar on ''Graceful Ageing'' scheduled on World Alzheimer's Day, Tuesday, 21st September 2021, from 11:00 AM To 12:30 PM.
