ASSOCHAM`s Webinar on Micronutrient Deficiency Among Children

  • 22 Dec, 2021
  • 15:00 - 16:30

The government prioritized identification and screening of SAM children as a priority area during POSHAN Maah 2020. After the decision by government, state governments actively identified SAM children, strengthened Facility based management networks and spurred action on management of SAM children in community.

The government has identified that the absence of micronutrient and energy content in dietary practices as one of the important causes of undernutrition, and specifically micronutrient deficiency.
In POSHAN Maah 2021, there has been a focus on drive for identification of SAM and distribution of nutritious food for them. The government is also focusing on involving the private sector in the fight against malnutrition.

The private sector can support the government on: creating awareness, enabling Jan Andolan for government’s efforts, supporting distribution of nutritional kits in high burden districts, providing IEC material, facilitating interventions of state ministries / departments.

Key Areas of Discussion:

  • Increase in wasting due to micronutrient deficiency
  • Lack of dietary diversity and focus on caloric intake
  • Ways of ensuring dietary diversity poshan vatikas, leveraging traditional wisdom in community nutritional practices
  • Improving micronutrient delivery – Food fortification (Prime Minister announcement), EDNS for SAM children
  • Appropriate Dosage
  • Role of Industry and Civil Society
  • Ideal Feeding protocols
